Magnitude 5.2 earthquake jolts eastern Taiwan

Taipei, Aug. 14 (CNA) An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale shook eastern Taiwan at 6:55 p.m. Tuesday. No casualties were immediately reported. The earthquake's epicenter was located 9.6 kilometers northwest of Hualien County Hall at a depth of 21.5 kilometers, the Central Weather Bureau said. The quake was felt at an intensity of 5 in Nanshan in the northeastern county of Yilan, the bureau said. An intensity of 4 was recorded in Hualien City, Ji-an Township in Hualien County and Techi in central Taiwan's Taichung, while in Hehuan Mountain in central Taiwan's Nantou County the intensity was 3, the bureau said. Meanwhile, the earthquake was felt at an intensity of 2 in Taipei's Xinyi District and 1 in other areas of Taipei.
